NAP

What is NAP?

NAP stands for Name, Address, and Phone Number, which are key details in a business’s online profile. It’s a critical factor, especially for local SEO, which focuses on optimizing a business’s online presence to attract more customers from relevant local searches.

Why is NAP important

NAP is very important for any business. Here’s a breakdown:

Local search rankings

Accurate and consistent NAP information helps improve your business’s visibility in local search results. Search engines like Google use NAP information to determine the legitimacy and relevance of a business. Consistent NAP data across various listings and directories signals to Google that a business is legitimate and well-established.

Online directories and citations

Having your NAP information listed in various online directories (like Yelp, TripAdvisor, or local business directories) helps in building citations. Citations are mentions of your business’s NAP on other websites. They are a key factor in local search rankings.

Google Business Profile (GBP)

For Google, particularly, it’s crucial to have your NAP information accurate and up-to-date on your Google Business Profile. This directly affects your appearance in Google Maps and local search results.

Customer trust and experience

Accurate NAP information provides potential customers with the correct details to contact or visit your business, which is essential for customer service and trust.

Consistent Location Data for Customers

Imagine asking 7 random people where a certain llama ranch is and getting these answers:

Huh?! Are these people still in business? Having inconsistent location data definitely doesn’t inspire confidence. It confuses potential customers — especially those using a cell phone to locate them — and might make them wonder whether the llama farm is still in operation. Having no profile on important directory sites lessens the chance of being found at all.

Now imagine asking 7 random people where a certain llama ranch is and getting these answers:

There’s no confusion. Customers can feel confident about how to find you.

Consistent Location Data for Search Engines

Search engines use consistent NAP data as a signal of authority. Having inconsistent or wrong NAP information on your online profiles confuses search engines and dilutes your ranking, because it’s difficult for their algorithms to determine which result is correct, and which one to rank higher.

Why DIY Doesn’t Work

Put simply, someone dedicated to make search links happen for their business can do some of this as a do-it-yourselfer. But realistically, if you try to create and maintain each of 62+ publisher profiles for your business yourself, it’s certain that you will start out fresh and enthusiastic end end up frustrated and tired, without a longterm solution.

Some of our functionality for creating business local search links isn’t available outside our system. You can go directly to publisher sites that allow it and claim or create a business profile. Some won’t allow it, will make you jump through hoops or want to charge a fee. Some won’t offer the enhanced fields on a free profile that our system can populate. At 45 minutes or an hour per profile just to start, you can imagine the time required, with separate logins, passwords, and confirmation routines for each one. Even if you could do this, when you start trying to manage and optimize so many profiles, with no optimization experience and no system for maintaining them, you’ll soon see the benefit of having an automated system and an expert to manage them for you.

It doesn’t make business sense to spend your precious time:

Finding that some publishers will not actually accept a profile you submit

Trying to claim a profile but meeting pressure to purchase upgrades

Managing multiple user names and passwords

Keeping complicated spreadsheets to track which sites need fixing

Waiting weeks or months for your profile to be reviewed and go live

Coming up with profile content that may or may not effectively market what you offer

Trying to deal with problems with no tech support

Finding that profiles you created have been dropped due to lack of updates

We’ve invested in this system because we think it’s the best value for our clients, and we’ve integrated it into our SEO packages.
